Get those cars and boats gassed up and ready to roll out, it is Friday.
The long holiday weekend has arrived! You can start celebrating our nation’s birthday today by attending the two-day 2011 Croaker Festival in Oriental whose theme is “Spirit of Croakerfest—Christmas in July.” Beginning at 9am today, vendor booths open; activities take place all day and end with a street dance (Bob Tyson Band) at 8pm. On Saturday, booths open at 8:30am with activities all day.
At 6pm another street dance takes place (The Southern Aires) and the festival ends with fireworks at 9:30pm. At New Bern’s Union Point Park on Monday, July 4th, activities including music by the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing Band and theatrical entertainment begin at 11am and last until 8pm. Fireworks over the Neuse River end the day. At 6pm, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Coolers and service animals are welcome but no alcohol, glass containers, fireworks or pets are allowed.
Check out some great music on the 4th in Lawson Creek Park in New Bern at 2pm.
