Foreclosures are in New Bern
January 20th, 2010   Categories: Real Estate News
Foreclosures are not over running our local real estate market here in New Bern NC but they are popping up even more these days. In fact there is one in my neighborhood that would be a great buy for someone.
This house has about 1 acre of usable flat land, a swimming pool that is in ground, 3/4 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, open bonus room, 2 car garage and more.
Contact me for more information on this and other homes in foreclosure.

Epiphany School holds their “Feast of Epiphany”
January 6th, 2010   Categories: New Bern Events
At 2 pm today our private school, The Epiphany celebrated a christian tradition called The Feast of Epiphany. We had candles, prayer and the 3 wise men followed by a fantastic feast of roast beef, fruit, cheese/crackers and cake.
A cool tradition is for each advisory group(1 teacher and about 12 students) to share a cake and with in that cake there is a gold coin. Who ever finds the coin gets to keep it.

New Bern Downtown Bridge Delays Opening
October 21st, 2009   Categories: What's Happening in New Bern Today
I know here in the South we do things slower but really can we please finish our Downtown bridge sometime this year?
If you have not noticed, even though it is quite obvious, our Alfred Cunningham drawbridge has been closed for quite a long time, years in fact. It was projected to be completed and open Nov. 1st but now will be delayed until mid-January 2010.
I am not sure what the issue is but it sure would be nice to have two ways into New Bern again. I am sure the Downtown New Bern Businesses are ready for it to be open. Many store owners have said that having the bridge closed has hurt their businesses.
Here is the story from the Sun Journal.
This past weekend we had the Bridge Run which is an annual event to raise money for 8 local charities.
It was nice to have the old bridge there so that we could run the 5k from Bridgeton into Downtown New Bern. Since the bridge has been closed, we have had to run just in the Downtown area.
Here is a map of the course:
I will keep you posted on the actual opening date!

Private Schools in New Bern NC
October 13th, 2009   Categories: People, Places, Things
When you are looking for private schools in New Bern NC look no further. The Epiphany is the best private school we have in New Bern.
I like this school because it invites people of all faiths. It provides a safe environment for our students to learn and play. I never have to worry about what is happening to my children during the day. I know they are receiving a great education and are surrounded by teachers and educators that really care about their students.

New Bern Foot Ball and Mum Fest
October 12th, 2009   Categories: New Bern Events, What's Happening in New Bern Today
What do New Bern High School Foot Ball and the Mum Festival have in common, they both happened this past weekend.
The weekend started out on Friday night with New Bern High School playing New Hanover High School. It was a great defensive game and with out New Bern’s defense it would have been disastrous. After the game, several people made comments about the offense and that they did not know what was happening with New Bern’s offense. After what seemed to be forever, the game ended with New Hanover beating the Bears 15 to 8.
The weekend continued on Saturday with the MumFest. This is New Bern main festival for the year. They close all of the streets off downtown near Union Point Park. It was 87 degrees on Saturday when I went followed by rain. There were cars, food, games, music, and lot and lots of crafts.
Sunday signaled the end of the weekend and the festival. In the morning a new tradition began with a fun run that had runners all over the streets of Downtown New Bern. More food, crowds and rides then sadly at 5pm the festival was over.
Here is a picture I took at the corner of Broad and Front Street.

MS Bike Tour Hit New Bern NC
September 15th, 2009   Categories: New Bern Events
It was the biggest Bike Tour in the history of New Bern. 2700 Bikers hit the streets of New Bern on this past Saturday and Sunday, including yours truly.
It was a sunny day, highs were to be in the mid 80’s. Bikes were lined up at 7:50am. I took the back of the pack in order to avoid getting run over by the”serious” bikers. My team, Team Vin was 60 strong. Some of us were riding the 75 and other were going to ride the 100 mile route. I rode the 75 mile route and it took us all over Beaufort County and part of Craven that I never knew existed. After 7 rest stops and 5 1/2 hours of straight biking, I finished but not for the entire weekend. On Sunday, I started the whole process over again but this time I was only going to ride the 30 mile route. 2 hours after the start, I drug my sore behind into the park.
I love this event. The MS Bike Tour is a great fund-raising event for a worthy cause and it is a blast. New Bern becomes very bike friendly during this time. It is so cool to ride over the bridge and throughout the town and ever have to stop for one traffic light!
Pictures will follow as soon as I get them.
P.s I am going to start collecting team member for next year from New Bern, so come and join Team Vin!!

The Epiphany School New Bern NC
August 19th, 2009   Categories: New Bern Events
Probably all parents feel this way, but I am so glad that our school started back today even though it was a half day!
Tomorrow will be a full day of community service at different places, some to include an older folks home, Mercy Clinic and more. The young students will set forth to show their dedication and servant leadership to their community beginning at 9 am.
The students get separated into groups and are identified by either a red, yellow, or orange shirt. So if you see them tomorrow, just let them know what a great job you think that they are doing.
On a different note, The boy’s Falcon soccer game will be on Friday followed by the 1st dance of the year.
check out the falcon link for more details.
