What does Cherry Point have in common with Harley Davidson you ask, both are having events in our area this weekend.
Apparently Myrtle Beach did not appreciate the bike event in their town there fore the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association moved their annual rally to New Bern, North Carolina this year. Welcome to all of you. We are glad to have you come to New Bern. This year’s rally is scheduled for May 15-16 and marks the rally’s 69th year of existence.
Cherry Point Marine Corp Air Stationis holding their annual event, the air show, this weekend. Although it has been raining off and on, they still have been able to carry on. The Air Show is held at the Marine Base in Havelock NC and is free to the public.

Golds Gym in New Bern Nc
May 13th, 2009   Categories: People, Places, Things
Shake off those negative vibes, turn off that terrible news station and head off to New Bern’s only Gold’s Gym. Located at 3340 Martin Luther King Blvd between Target and the Twin Rivers Mall, Gold’s is easy to access.
I started going to the gym before there ever was a gym there. Before they constructed Gold’s Gym, the company had a trailer set outside of it so that they could start to sell memberships. All these years later, their membership is growing strong.

Neighborhood Covenants, Protective or Restrictive?
May 6th, 2009   Categories: Home Buyer Tips
When buying a home, one of the most important items on your check list should be covenants. There is a disagreement as to what to call these pages of paperwork. I myself would like to view them as being Protective, where as others see them as impinging on their personal rights as a home owner. These documents are put into place from the conception of the neighborhood. They are to make sure that property values are not harmed by what one indiviual may or may not do with their property.
Before I show some one a neighborhood, I try to ask them a few questions that I know would help them with their decision to buy or not in that area. Here are a few examples of what one might see in a set of covenants.
1. Type of dog: Some communities are restricting the type of dog that can be brought into the community. I know of at least 4 areas between New Bern and Havelock that have this rule. Brices Crossing, Lynwood Heights, Tucker Creek, just to name a few.
2. Fences: There are many areas that do not allow fences to be built. Those that do allow fences have regulations on the material and height of the fence. Most allow vinyl or wood fences of no more than 4 feet in height. There are only a few areas that will allow a chain link fence. If you choose a home on a golf course lot, forget about a fence, most neighborhoods do not allow them to be built.
3. Campers/Boats: A lot of communities do not allow campers and/or boats to be kept in the driveway.
Here is an example of a Protective covenants: here is a link to Taberna’s Covenants

Happy Earth Day, Now Go Green!
April 22nd, 2009   Categories: What's Happening in New Bern Today
As I get older, I wonder what will become of our mother earth if we the keepers do not do something to preserve it. Not only do we need to do this now but make sure future generations do the same. Below are some of the things that you can do to make this happen.
So come on New Bern NC, Go Green with me!
1. Replace your old light bulbs with CFL’s
2. Plant your own garden and use old garbage as fertilizer(Compost).
3. Use a washable water bottle and stop buying bottled water.
4. Don’t leave your lights on if you are not home or not using them.
5. Raise the thermometer in the Summer and Lower your thermometer in the Winter.
6. Reuse water.
7. Take shorter showers and don’t leave the water running.
8. Buy an energy efficient appliance and eventually replace all of them.
9. Use the cloth sacks that many stores now sell instead of plastic or paper bags.
